What's the must do and see here?

Hiking the Peninsula Trail in the Charles C. Deam Wilderness guides you through a section of the Hoosier National Forest. Following ridge lines, up and down foothills, through deciduous wood and coniferous patches, you will eventually reach the shore of Lake Monroe. Pitch your tent overlooking the lake, kick back and relax with your fishing pole and a good book. This trail is perfect for escaping the corn fields of Indiana and getting to experience the old wilderness that the area possessed. Just outside of Bloomington, Indiana, you can experience art and culture while still being close to the wilderness.

Favorite memory here?

Heather and I hiked the Peninsula Trail during the peak of the autumn season, and the fall colors stood out among the trees. The weather and temperature were perfect for camping.

Tell us about yourself!

I'm a Social Worker at his local VA hospital, helping post 9/11 Veterans find housing, jobs, and mental health & medical care. When I'm not at work though, I'm on the road with my wife, Heather, exploring the world around us. In the summer of 2016 we moved from Indiana to Oregon in order to have more access to mountains, trails, and the coast. I've had exposure to the great outdoors since childhood, traveling throughout the US with my family. It wasn't until 2012, when my journey to Iceland with my cousin, did I find my love for adventure photography. Since then, My wife Heather and I have taken advantage of every opportunity to explore nature, whether it be overseas, across state lines, or just down the road. I capture the world with my camera lens to inspire others to get more active and share the outdoors with everyone.

HOOSIER NATIONAL FOREST OVERVIEW

Hoosier National Forest Hiking If you want to get lost in the woods for a while Hoosier National Forest is the place for you. Autumn is the time to go, but the inviting trees are calling your name year round. Expect very doable day hikes that take you through the foliage.

If you're planning on spending the night camping, which you 100% should, plan on some frigid nights in the winter months and humid toastier nights in the summer. If an Ab Lincoln style cabin is more your thing then they have that too! Reservations are not required, but highly recommended.
