Our Favorite Summer Events in Charleston
Summertime and the livin’ is busy!
We’re not just about lazy river days and beach bumming when the weather’s warm and the sun is out. While we love spending time out on the water, we also love diving into our community and getting to know the people around us.
Not too long ago we relocated from Atlanta to Charleston and have enjoyed every minute of it. From fried green tomatoes to riverboats to beach cleanups, we’ve done nothing but soak up the beauty and culture that lives in this city. So we hope you all join us in doing the same by getting out there and getting involved.
Take a look at the shows, challenges and other summer events in Charleston that we’ll be at. We hope to see you there!
July 13: ReggaetronicsIn just a few days, we’ll be out on Lake Murray for the Reggaetronic Music Festival. Completely outdoors and only accessible by boat, this unique event benefits nonprofits across South Carolina. You can catch us enjoying the music and making sure everyone’s got their essentials (spoiler; we mean floating sunglasses). We’re proud to be a sponsor of a festival that’s all about the things we love: floating, music and the state we call home.
July 13: Stingrays Fan Day
What? Did you think we were only about life on the water? We go everywhere (just like our sunglasses). The South Carolina Stingrays have a special place in our heart, especially Cool Ray. Come join us as we celebrate Stingrays Fan Day at the North Charleston Coliseum from 11am - 2pm.
July - September: Surfrider Foundation Beach Cleanup
Taking care of where we live and play is a responsibility we don’t take lightly. We want future generations to enjoy the same things we do; soft sand, stand-out shells, gentle waves and wonderful wildlife. That’s why we’re working alongside the Surfrider Foundation, an organization that’s dedicated to keeping the natural beauty of Charleston, to keep our beaches clean. Throughout the summer, we’ll be picking out the plastic and the trash from our shores — and we hope you’ll help.
- Thursday, July 25 | Folly Beach | 6 p.m.
- Saturday, Sept. 7 | Sullivan’s | TBD
- Thursday, Sept. 19 | Folly Beach | 6 p.m.
Chances are there’s a lot of Guy Harvey fish-themed t-shirts in your closet (and if you’re not, you’re missing out). But Guy Harvey makes more than fashionable statements, he works hard to make a difference. His Ocean Foundation is hosting a stand-up paddleboarding charity challenge to help research and conserve the marine environment. Think you can beat us? Follow @rheosgear, @drguyharvey, @yogaqua, @supyogawithkarine, @tayleerenee, @keysten from July 26 to August 2, 2019 to watch the Challenge.
July 26-27: James Island Yacht Club Fishing Tournament
If you’re ready for a challenge, come join us at this incredible king mackerel tournament. Across the eastern shore, from North Carolina down to South Florida, this catch-and-release tournament brings together anglers from all over. See if you can add to the hall of fame by competing in division 3 starting in Charleston. Click here to register and read more about the event.
August 22: Surfers Healing of Folly Beach
Surfers Healing is the original surf camp for children with autism. We follow their belief that surfing is wildly therapeutic for everyone. The ocean has that special powerful effect to heal and calm your mind. We are so excited to be a part of such an amazing program that brings peace through water and waves.
We’re always looking for more things to do, so expect to see us around town often and don’t be afraid to come up and say hey. We’d love to see you show off your signature Rheos sunnies! Right now, we’re in the middle of ICAST, the world’s largest sportfishing tradeshow, so keep an eye out for our upcoming post on what we learned and who caught our eye.
