Atlanta Beltline Activities

December 22, 2015

The Atlanta Beltline has been a complete game-changer for Atlanta, and locals have poured onto the Eastside trail to explore the neighborhoods that span from Cabbagetown/Krog Street north to Piedmont Park. The multi-use trail and linear greenspace has become a steady stream of bikes, runners, and walkers, but taking a moment to step off the concrete path and into the surrounding neighborhoods offers some unique opportunities that you don't want to miss. Check out our top 5 list of Atlanta Beltline activities you don't want to miss.

So grab your shades and explore a few of the highlights that you might not know about:

1) King of Pops Yoga - Find Your Zen

Atlanta Beltline Activities

Atlanta favorite King of Pops hosts King of Pops Yoga in the park for FREE every Tuesday along Atlanta's Eastside trail in Historic Fourth Ward Skatepark hosted by Charlie Baxter Graham. Bring a mat, towel, and positive attitude and stretch your mind and body.

If that's not enough mind expansion for you, you can also check out the Sunrise Hikes hosted by REI that regularly leave from the same Historic Fourth Ward Skatepark. Check out the Atlanta Beltline hiking calendar for more details.

2) Two Urban Licks - Brunch and Bocce

Atlanta Beltline Activities

Two Urban Licks is so well hidden that most people only find the restaurant via word of mouth, Yelp or wandering past on the Beltline. Saddle up on your bike and hit up brunch on the Two patio. Munch on some of the city's best appetizers (Smoked Salmon Chips, anyone?) and throw a few bocce balls with friends before starting a day of outdoor exploration. Don't dawdle, seating is limited and the porch fills up fast on a nice day.

3) The Parks, The Parks, The Parks

Atlanta Beltline Activities

Sure, everyone knows about Piedmont Park, but there are several lesser-known gems just steps off the Beltline including Old Fourth Ward Park. Tucked down off the Beltline just south of North Avenue, the park features Clear Creek Basin as its centerpiece. The two-acre stormwater detention pond built by the Department of Watershed Management has dramatically reduced flooding in the nearby neighborhoods. Parents with kids can utilize the playground and waterpark that's adjacent to the basin, and the park is perfect for a sunbathing or a unique running route. Not to mention the incredible wildlife that frequents the park.

4) Victory Is Back

Atlanta Beltline Activities

Those that were lamenting the loss of Victory Sandwich Bar from Inman Park to development can rejoice--Victory has returned from its not-so-brief exile and is located just off the Beltline near the intersection with the Atlanta PATH.

Victory is the perfect spot for a mid-flight refueling while biking around the city, and you won't regret ordering the Castro or one of Vic's select cocktails.

5) Atlanta PATH Trail

And finally, we have to mention the Eastside Trail's lesser-known older and bigger brother, the Stone Mountain trail. This behemoth runs from Piedmont Avenue downtown all the way out to Stone Mountain and intersects the Beltline at Inman Park. You'll want to do just a little bit of research before heading out, as it can be easy to lose the trail in Candler Park and Decatur. Once you get the hang of it, it may just become a regular ride. Also, we love to mention that Rheos was founded on a 30 mile ride on the Stone Mountain trail.
